Councillor Whitehand with news from Knaphill

Knaphill Football Club

I was recently sent an e-mail by a very concerned resident of Strathcona Gardens which included some photos of inconsiderate parking by some spectators who pitched up to watch the match played by the Club team on August 13th.  I replied to the resident and assured him I would contact Board members of the Club to establish why this had happened and how do they intend to prevent it from happening at future matches. The upshot was that a meeting was called attended by the concerned resident, Tony Chapman, the Club Chairman, Nick Croshaw, Club secretary, Geoff Ward, from the Council responsible for Community Development, myself, Councillor Ric Sharp, and other officers of the football club.

Tony Chapman stated that the Club had a new strategy to address the parking issues and pledged that it was to take effect immediately and tendered his apologies that local residents were troubled by fans of his club. The resident was satisfied with the offer on the table and hoped that no further disruption would occur.

I was pleased to have been able to facilitate this meeting and settle the matter for the residents of Strathcona Gardens.

Warbury Lane – Request to close to public

I was recently notified of the wish of a resident of Warbury Lane to have the Lane closed to non-residents. It seems the proposal is supported by some residents living at the Bisley end of the lane, on the grounds of the Lane becoming increasingly more dangerous to residents from cars being driven too fast along it. A meeting was called by County Councillor Diana Smith, who is inclined to support the closure. There was a cross section of people attending, 2 officers from the County Highways Department, Councillor .John Kingsbury, who attended as leader of the Council and as Chair of the Woking Local Committee, as well as two Bisley Parish Councillors. Various views both for and against the closure were put forward and the meeting concluded with further consultations to take place but immediate measures to be applied including, better signage and hedgerows to be pruned back to improve sightlines.  I will keep you posted as things move on with this issue.

 Surgery Matters

At my surgery last week, a concerned resident dropped by to relate his observations on some debris that is building up on Waterer’s Park. I have made arrangements with the Community officer for a site visit around the area to check out the park and have the matter addressed. I was also informed of some overhanging trees on Lower Victoria Road that are causing problems and overhanging hedgerow at the A322/ Chobham Road area that need to be cut back.  These will be included with the site visit to Waterer’s Park.

Thank you, and if you need any assistance re. Issues or matters in Knaphill please don’t hesitate to contact me.
