Conservative candidate Jonathan Lord and MP Humfrey Malins joined Woking's Chinese community in Woking Town Square to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The town centre event, organised by the Chinese Association of Woking, included stalls of Chinese crafts, music and singing, a dragon dance and further dancing in the Town Square. Jonathan was happy to get his name translated in Chinese and meet with organisers of the event.
"This is a unique event in Woking," said Jonathan. "The colourful stalls and various artistic displays mean that there is something for everyone passing through the town centre. I've been lucky today to meet with the some of the organisers and they really have worked very hard to put together such a great celebration. The singing and dancing performances of the children were particularly colourful and heart-warming.
"I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and the best of luck in this year of the tiger, or Geng Yin. As someone who was born in the year of the tiger myself, I hope to enjoy good fortune in this election year. If I do, I will certainly be back again at this celebration in 2011, as the local MP, to help welcome in the year of the rabbit."
